Tomorrow night we will be going on a field trip! Our church is a multi campus site. This is by far one of the coolest things about us. We have some amazing worship and fun at Van Buren and I think it's something you should all experience at least once. We will meet for small groups early (4:15) at Ft. Smith and then head over to VB on a charter bus at 5:30. This is our chance to show just how unified we are! Even with Joel out of town (insert sad face) we are going to have a blast with Sir Mike Crain at the helm! Peace, Love and Happiness peeps... C-ya tomorrow night for Converge, VB style.
The Chaffin Charmers made an amazing appearance at You Own the Weekend last night. It was great having so many Charmers and Chaffin cheerleader at Weekend.
Next week is Ramsey Owns the Weekend. Should be lots of fun.
I showed this video Sunday night at Southside, You Own the Weekend. This is our series where we allow a collision of student worship and school spirit pep rally to happen. With the attendance of several SHS Dixie Belles in attendance I thought this would be my chance to show them my potential as a future Dixie Belle.
Southside You Own the Weekend was a huge evening this past week (more pictures, videos, and thoughts to come later). I am so thankful for a great group of girls who stayed all day Sunday to set up the student building. They did an amazing job creating an environment that was both student worship service and pep rally. Many thanks to Kylee S., Emiliee C., Cara K., Rachel T., Savannah S., and Cassidy K. they all worked so hard to make the student building Southside ready!
Up this week is Chaffin You Own the Weekend!
Above is a picture of Cara decorating one of the doors into the student building. Below is the other student building entrance.
After preaching the first morning service yesterday at Community Bible - Van Buren I looked up to see the entire praise band wearing Dallas Cowboy jerseys.
Now if you didn't know I am a HUGE Washington Redskins fan. The Cowboys are the Redskin's biggest football rival. The bass player at Van Buren, Alfie Barter, organized this ambush on me. I couldn't help but laugh and take a picture (which felt weird during a worship set).
This prompted me to make a bet with Alfie (that I shared before the whole church in the second service). If the Redskins finish lower than the Cowboys this year then I will come to CBC - Van Buren in a Cowboys jersey myself. This bet is already off to a bad start with the Redskins losing yesterday and the Cowboys winning. YIKES!
Feeling sadness at the end of a three day weekend (fyi - I am not! So glad to be back at work)? Well here are some posts from the Land of Blogs that got me thinking, giggling, or (gasp) reading.
* A few major evangelical leaders have come out in support of President Obama's speech to American school children today. They have good points...though I think it is totally American to not want to listen to the speech too.
Well sadly another Labor Day has come and gone. Is it just me or does Labor Day seem to arrive faster and faster every year? Maybe I am just thinking about Christmas. Nevertheless, another three day weekend is done. To look back and remember I wanted to give you five things, in no particular order, I really liked about this weekend.
1. Real football games!
No more scrimmages and pre-season games...this weekend real live actual football took place. There was a bevy of games starting with 9th grade football on Thursday, High School varsity games on Friday, and a glorious slate of College Football Saturday, Sunday, and Monday! Below is kickoff to the 2009 season at Southside High School as the Rebs took on Little Rock Catholic. As a youth pastor it is always a joy to see students you know compete, cheer, dance, and play in the band.
2. Chillin with my kids!
My wife went to spend a weekend in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with her parents. It gave me the chance to spend three days alone with my three kids. Though it was very tiring and a lot of work it also provided me with some great memories, lots of hugs, and a powerful reminder of what my wife does every single day.
3. Watching Melaine Oudin Win at the U.S. Open!
If you did not get a chance to watch the 17 year old from Georgia beat THREE seeded opponents (several who have won major titles in the past) then you missed out. She played with determination well beyond her 17 years of life. I hope she continues to defy the odds and show that students can do anything!
I wanted to watch the pilot of the Fox show Glee before the new season begins this Wednesday. The show is a light, creative, and very funny. Imagine a High School Musical with edge meets a nerdy Fame! Ok, maybe you don't get that comparison, but it sure makes sense to me. All I am saying is watch the pilot on Hulu and tune in this Wednesday for the premiere of the new season. Here is a trailer for the new season...also go ASAP to iTunes and download the cast singing, "Don't Stop Believing."
I took my kids to the Huckabee Nature Center (which is a hidden gem here in the River Valley...not only is it fun and well maintained, its totally free).
We did see a bit too much nature however. Upon our visit my son, Luke came to me and said, "come see the turtles, they are standing up!"
As I went over I saw this sight.
After seeing this sight I looked at Luke and said, "yes buddy they are standing up!"
